From the Manufacturer The House of Troy P14-201-81 14-Inch Portable Desk/Piano Lamp shows that hand-craftsmanship is a time honored tradition, as alive today as the land itself. In this tradition, House of Troy carefully crafts each light for you by hand, to the highest quality standards. This lamp will create a stunning presence in any room and works well with many styles of decor. Showcasing the classic lines of this lamp and cut from the highest quality solid brass, the P14-201-81 has a mahogany bronze finish that is a deep shade of brown, our darkest bronze painted finish. All painted finishes are opaque. This House of Troy light fixture has a hinged, adjustable arm that is easily adjustable up to 14-Inch tall allowing for ample illumination while playing your piano or working at your desk. The P14-201-81 uses two medium base T10, 60W (maximum) incandescent bulbs housed in an 14-Inch wide shade controlled by a switch on the base. This lamp is CA Title 20 Compliant when used with a compact fluorescent light bulb. The 6-Inch square base has a factory formed opening for the 9-foot brown cord and polarized plug. The metal components of House of Troy products should be cleaned with warm water and a soft cloth; using soaps or glass cleaners may damage the metal finish. This fixture is sold one per package and is UL listed in the USA and Canada. Tucked into the northern Vermont hills, House of Troy has been producing classic lighting since the mid 1940s. Though off the beaten path and far from the spotlights of the big cities, the House of Troy reputation burns brightly. For nearly sixty years, the company has been offering lighting known for its craftsmanship and quality.

I have 8 lamps from House of Troy dating back 13 years, over $3k invested over time. Last week I bought my fourth of a floor lamp model and this model, my third desk/piano lamp. Both surprised me with an absurd lack of quality control. A corner of the base has a massive gouge exposing the unpainted core. Another segment has paint so thin at the edge that the dull silver underneath the bronze paint shows. And the place where the "turret" mounts to the base has circular scratches. How on Earth did someone let this through quality control? The shades of my other two desk/piano lamps are perfectly flat and square on the lower opening edges, but this one has a rear corner tapering downward and center tapering upward. Like it was either created crooked or mishandled and bent. The packaging was flawless, however -- no sign of damage in transit.Unacceptable in a lamp costing over $450. House of Troy has gone downhill since they moved production from Vermont to China. Now I'm debating whether to try exchanging versus walking away from the brand entirely. The problem is wanting it to match the two desk/piano lamps I already have, which are apparently relics of when they practiced quality control. The nonfunctional floor lamp I ordered at the same time is meant to match three others. I really don't want to give up with giving them a chance to replace them, but what are the odds of two fluke QC errors in two products at the same time? I suppose I'll start with an exchange and update this review with my conclusion.
